LOCATION OF POSITION

The positions are located in Baltimore City. Therefore, the resulting eligible list will be used to fill current and future vacancies in Baltimore City. When completing application, please select all locations in which you are willing to work.

POSITION DUTIES

The Pretrial Release Investigator Trainee is the entry level of pretrial release investigative work for the Division of Pretrial Detention and Services (DPDS), Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services, serving Baltimore City.

Learns how to compile, organize, and prepare case files for arrestees;

Learns rules, regulations, procedures and policies applicable to the State pretrial release program and criminal justice system;

Accesses the appropriate information systems to obtain criminal histories, etc.;

Verifies all background data;

Completes a Risk instrument to assess danger to the community or appearance in court;

Formulates an appropriate recommendation for bail or recognizance based on the investigation;

Presents the gathered information and proffers the recommendation to the Judge at Bail Review; forwards the information to Records/Classification; and

Performs other related duties.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.


Experience: None.


Notes:

1.  Candidates may substitute additional investigative experience in law enforcement, court services, parole and probation or pretrial release work on a year-to-year basis for the required education.

 

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in special investigations classifications or specialty codes in the criminal justice field of work at the rate of two years of military experience for one year of experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The following qualifications are preferred, not required:

Experience processing data into a criminal justice information system (CJIS).

Experience with research and report writing.

Investigative experience in law enforcement, court services, parole and probation or pretrial release work.

Possession of coursework in any of the fields of criminal justice, criminology, psychology, sociology, human relations, or business or public administration.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this class may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a driver’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Employees in this classification will be assigned to one of three shifts in order to maintain 24 hour coverage and may be required to work on weekends and holidays.

EXAMINATION PROCESS

The examination process will consist of a rating of your education, training, and experience as

presented on your application and as they relate to the requirements of the position. Therefore, it is
