MDH Clifton T. Perkins Hospital Center, Jessup MD

POSITION DUTIES

The Registered Nurse Manager (RNM) in collaboration with leadership, is responsible for nursing and department operations, organization and management of 24 hour nursing care and staffing. The RNM may be assigned to the Nursing Office or to a ward. A RNM is the managerial level of work in planning and coordinating the provision of nursing care for a nursing division for all shifts at Clifton T. Perkins Hospital Center. Employees in this classification directly supervise Registered Nurse Supervisors and through them indirectly supervises Registered Nurses Charge and subordinate staff. Employees may be subject to call-in and overtime based on staffing needs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or health-related field from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Four (4) years of experience as a Registered Nurse to include two (2) years in a supervisory, administrative or consultative capacity and two (2) years in a psychiatric setting.

Notes: 1. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Master’s degree in Nursing or a health related field from an accredited college or university and two years of experience as a Registered Nurse in a psychiatric setting for the required education and experience.

2. Candidates may substitute six years of experience as a Registered Nurse to include three years in a supervisory, administrative or teaching capacity in a psychiatric setting for the required education and experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Nursing classifications or Nursing and Hospital Administration specialty codes in the Nursing field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.

1. Nursing leadership experience as well as experience with staffing and scheduling.  
2. Excellent communication skills including conflict resolution and de-escalation techniques; be detail oriented with excellent follow-up and commitment to policy adhesion; and demonstrated critical thinking skills.  
3. Experience utilizing MS Suite applications.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current license as a Registered Nurse from the Maryland Board of Nursing, 4140 Patterson Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21215 or possess a current multi-state license in party states that candidates have declared as primary states of residence.

2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

3. Employees in this classification may be required to successfully complete and maintain current certification of cardiopulmonary resuscitation training.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Employees in this classification are subject to call-in and, therefore, will be required to provide the facility with a phone number at which they can be reached.

2. Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.
