Main Purpose of Job

This position will function at the advanced level, in the skilled services of the Maintenance Department. This is a non-licensed, proficiently skilled position in the areas of plumbing, HVAC, and handyman services. This position will provide a safe, clean climatic environment for patients and staff by maintaining (PM's), repairing or replacing components of our water, sewer, compressed air, steam, building structure systems and performs other duties as assigned by the Maintenance Chief.

Duties include, but are not limited to: receiving orders and completing tasks according to hospital regulatory compliance; performing small construction work, minor plumbing replacements and repairs; carpentry, drywall, painting, minor electrical work, ceiling and floor tile replacements and equipment repair.  This position will require some heavy listing and/or working in areas of extreme hot, cold and/or confined spaces such as basement area.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Eighth grade.

Experience: Four (4) years of experience in any combination of the maintenance trades, three (3) years must be in the trades of electricity, plumbing, steam fitting, refrigeration or air conditioning.

Notes: 1. Candidates may substitute additional experience in any of the maintenance trades on a year-for-year basis for up to three years of the required education.

2. Candidates may substitute the possession of a degree from an accredited vocational or technical high school with a major in Building Maintenance or a related field for up to three years of the required general experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in utilities repair classifications or construction and engineering specialty codes in any combination of maintenance trades, on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The desired candidate should have experience with plumbing, pipe fitting, and HVAC. The desired candidate should also have experience with general maintenance and carpentry.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
