Main Purpose of Job

This recruitment is for four vacancies with the MDH RICA (Regional Institute for Children and Adolescents)-Baltimore. These positions will work as part of an interdisciplinary team to provide quality education to students with special educational needs. The positions' responsibilities are mainly to assist the lead teacher with planning, preparing and implementing curriculum, managing and supporting students using positive behavior interventions and taking data regarding behaviors and IEP goals.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:   Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Two years of experience assisting a Teacher in a classroom setting.

Note: Candidates may substitute additional education at an accredited college or university at the rate of 30 credit hours for each year of the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The desired candidate should have experience working with adolescents in a mental health residential treatment program.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Title I of the Federal Elementary and Secondary Education Act requires that paraprofessionals working as Instructional Assistants meet at least one of the criteria prior to an offer of employment:

1. Completion of two years of study at an institution of higher education.

2. Possession of an Associate of Arts degree.

3. Demonstrate through a formal state or local assessment process, knowledge of and the ability to assist in instructing reading, writing and mathematics.

Applicants that do not possess the necessary post-secondary education may obtain additional information about the assessment process from the employing agency.

EXAMINATION PROCESS

The assessment may consist of a rating of your education, training, and experience related to the requirements of the position. It is important that you provide complete and accurate information on your application. Please report all experience and education that is related to this position.

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.

Leave may be granted to a contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
