LOCATION OF POSITION

The Department of Housing and Community Development Headquarters is located in Prince George's County across from the New Carrollton Metro stop.

Free parking is available to the Department's employees on site at the present time; however, please be advised that this is subject to change.  The Department is also accessible by MARC, WMATA, and other public transportation options.

POSITION DUTIES

The Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) is seeking 2 (two) part-time Shuttle Bus Drivers; one will work the morning shift (6:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.), and the other will work the afternoon shift (11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.), Monday through Friday. This position is located within the Office of Operations and Administration (O&A), reporting to the Deputy Director of O&A.

The Shuttle Bus Driver(s) must arrive to work on time to transport DHCD employees on regularly scheduled routes to the metro, and lunch runs in Lanham, MD, and perform administrative tasks as needed. The safety of passengers is the prime responsibility of the position. The incumbent must follow all traffic laws and posted speed limits, even at the expense of arriving late to their destinations. Additionally, the driver must report and document unsafe conditions, road hazards, or mechanical difficulties to the Deputy Director of O&A.

A driver's license and safe driving record is mandatory. Due to the nature and risk to the agency, this position is deemed 'sensitive,' per Executive Order 01.01.1991.16 - State of Maryland Substance Abuse Policy that permits pre-employment and random drug and alcohol testing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Two years experience operating a commercial vehicle transporting passengers.

Note:

1. Additional experience as stated above may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in logistics specialist classifications or administrative support specialty codes in the logistics field of work, on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
  • Passenger endorsement
  • Clean driving records with zero points

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification will be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

Please note: The Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development is not sponsoring new employees in application of the H-1B Visa at this time due to budgetary constraints. Federal regulations prohibit H1B Visa candidates from paying sponsorship fees, all sponsorship fees must be assumed by the potential employer.

EXAMINATION PROCESS

The examination will consist of a rating of your education, training, and experience related to the requirements of the position. You may be required to complete a qualifications supplement, or the rating may be based on your application. BENEFITS

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits. Leave may be granted to a contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
