Springfield Hospital Center is a regional psychiatric hospital operated by the State of Maryland, Maryland Department of Health, which is located on a picturesque campus in southern Carroll County, MD. Springfield Hospital Center is one of the largest psychiatric hospitals in the State of Maryland that provides a wide range of clinical services for the treatment of patients with mental illnesses.

Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to provide direct security services, diverse administrative and clerical assistance to the SHC - Captain of Police. This position works at the full level and will be involved in the training and scheduling of work assignments for all security personnel under the direction of the SHC Police Department. This position reports directly to the Captain of Police.

Duties assigned to this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing security services when and as needed
  • Providing direct supervision of all security services personnel
  • Inspecting all security personnel for uniform and hygiene compliance (i.e. compliance of grooming, uniform standards, etc.)
  • Assisting with writing and updating policies and procedures that apply to security personnel and hospital needs
  • Training all security personnel, on their work assignments and equipment on assigned post
  • Conducting rounds and inspections of security personnel
  • Conducting counseling sessions with subordinates
  • Training security personnel in and enforcing departmental policies, as well as, SHC-Hospital policies, procedures, and recommends disciplinary actions for/of subordinates, in violation of those polices
  • Preparing and serving employee evaluations and counseling forms
  • Recommending and implementing security procedures
  • Preparing monthly work schedule and daily posts assignments for all security officers
  • Must be able to properly maintain twenty-four-hour hospital security coverage at all times
  • Inspecting work sites for potential security hazards and report incidents of potential security hazards to the appropriate department for repairs and or corrections

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Two years experience in general services functions, office administration activities or in the receiving, storing, issuance, purchase or requisition of equipment, materials, and parts and supplies.

Notes: 1. Additional experience as stated above may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in logistics specialist classifications or administrative support specialty codes in the logistics field of work, on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

The selected candidate must have one year security services experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The desired candidate should possess leadership experience as well as experience working in a psychiatric hospital setting.
