Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to conduct outreach, engagement, and education activities to non-behavioral health providers and pharmacists in Howard County to ensure responsible prescribing practices, responsible pain management, and increase access to substance use disorder services including delivery of the Maryland Opioid Academic Detailing Project. This position completes duties to expand the capabilities of HCHD in addressing the opioid crisis by increasing health care provider awareness and access to behavioral health resources.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:   A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Public Health Education, Community Health Education or Health Science.

Experience: One year of experience planning, developing, implementing and promoting health education projects.

Notes: 

1. Candidates may substitute a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum of 18 credit hours in Public Health Education, Community Health Education, Health Science or related behavioral science and two years of experience planning, developing, implementing and promoting health education projects for the required education and experience.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Health Educator and Community Health classifications or Health Educator and Community Health specialty codes in the Public Health field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Desired qualifications:
- Experience collaborating with community stakeholders in a public health setting
- Experience with evidence based practice models/programs
- Experience with public speaking in a public health setting 
- Experience with customer service in a public health setting
- Ability to travel in Howard county
- Ability to work some nights and weekends

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
