Introduction

The Department of Labor, (MDOL), Division of Unemployment Insurance is accepting applications from qualified candidates for the position of UI Professional II. This recruitment will be used to fill current and future vacancies. All candidates must meet the minimum qualifications during the time apply. The resulting eligible list will be maintained for one year after the closing date of the announcement.

POSITION DUTIES

This position provides assistance to special unemployment programs that support the Maryland Division of Unemployment Insurance (DUI) on a daily basis. Doing so will ensure prompt information and processing of crucial benefit payments for UI claimants impacted by foreign trade and unemployment. Employees in this classification will primarily be focused on providing high-quality customer service to individuals applying for unemployment insurance benefits.

Position Duties include but are not limited to:

-Respond to employer, claimant, legislative and research group requests, by phone and email, for information on the Work Share (WS) program in Maryland.

-Interpret current UI Law and program procedures involving.

-Contribute to the development of new application and letter format that is sent to employers.

-Forward Work Sharing application to employers.

-Upon receipt of completed application  review and decide if the Work Share plan will be approved or disapproved.

-Send letter of approval/disapproval to employer. Enter the appropriate information into the Maryland Automated Benefits System (BEACON) to establish the Work Sharing Plan for payment.

-Maintain units spreadsheets.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Applications that meet the minimum and selective qualifications will be referred to the hiring manager for interview selection. Units will select those candidates most closely demonstrating the qualifications for interview.

Education: Possession of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university. 

Experience: 6 months to 1 year of experience in a public/or private agency rendering and/or determining eligibility for a Human Service Program or other programs. 

Note: Applicants may substitute additional experience in unemployment insurance as defined above for the required education at the rate of one year of experience for one year of education, for up to four years of the required education.

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

1. Customer service experience.
2. Data entry experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications. 

1. Proficient in Microsoft Excel.
2. Experience working with and interpreting unemployment insurance laws and regulations.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

All candidates are subject to a background check against files maintained by the Division of Unemployment Insurance (MDOL/DUI) to determine whether any monies are owed to MDOL/DUI as a result of unemployment insurance overpayment/fraud. Any unpaid debt may have an impact on whether or not a candidate is offered employment.

U.S. Military Veterans may qualify for additional bonus points towards certification. Any job offer will be contingent on the candidate providing a U.S. Military form DD 214 verifying honorable discharge from service prior to starting employment (and may be requested prior to interview). Permanent State employees do not need to submit proof of Veterans’ status.
