Main Purpose of Job

This position provides counseling services to persons assessed as having alcohol and/or drug addiction or abuse and their families. This positions primary clientele will be individuals who are currently incarcerated at Frederick County Adult Detention Center, and include those nearing release needing re-entry treatment recommendations and connection to services.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:   Determined by the Maryland State Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists under the requirements for Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselors or Certified Professional Counselors-Alcohol and Drug on or before September 30, 2008.

Experience: Determined by the Maryland State Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists under the requirements for Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselors or Certified Professional Counselors-Alcohol and Drug on or before September 30, 2008.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The desired candidate should possess the following:

  • Experience working with incarcerated population
  • Experience in group setting counseling

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. In accordance with Health Occupations Title 17 and Code of Maryland Regulations 10.58.07, candidates placed in this classification must be licensed by the Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists as a Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor or as a Certified Professional Counselor-Alcohol and Drug on or before September 30, 2008.

2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.

For education obtained outside the U.S., any job offer will be contingent on the candidate providing an evaluation for equivalency by a foreign credential evaluation service prior to starting employment (and may be requested prior to interview).
