Main Purpose of Job

This position will perform licensed counseling services, at the supervisory level, to clients of the Joseph S. Massie Unit, a residential unit for treatment of substance use disorders. This position will provide supervision to lower-level alcohol & drug counselors and related support staff.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Determined by the Maryland State Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists under the requirements for Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselors.

Experience: Three years of experience providing counseling to clients with substance use disorders by using assessment, evaluation, intervention, treatment and rehabilitation.

Note: Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Drug and Alcohol Counseling or Health Care Administration classifications or Mental/Behavioral Health and Drug and Alcohol Counseling or Health Services Administration specialty codes in the health related field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The preferred candidate should possess the following:

  • Experience with the drug/alcohol population
  • Experience with the ASAM Criteria

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. In accordance with Health Occupations Title 17 and Code of Maryland Regulations 10.58.07, candidates placed in this classification must be licensed by the Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists as a Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor. A copy of your license or license number should accompany your application.

2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.
