Introduction

This is a position specific recruitment for the Maryland Department of the Environment.  This recruitment will be used to fill current and future vacancies for this position/function only.  The resulting cert list will be maintained for one year.  Person's interested in future vacancies within the classification must re-apply.

POSITION DUTIES

The main purpose of this position is to assist MDE's Fleet Manager with the daily operations of the Department's fleet consisting of 240 State vehicles, 80 boats and trailers and 850 drivers and to provide support for all functions within the Office of Central Services. The incumbent of this position is responsible for facilitating all EZ-Pass responders for MDE's fleet.

The position reviews, verifies and approves all out-of-state tolls and coordinate payment efforts with the OSA Budget Office and may contact MVA for discrepancies to ensure adjustments are made. The incumbent prepares reports and distributes to Senior Management and Fleet Coordinators. The position notifies Administration Fleet Coordinators regarding recall notices, red light violations, and EZ-Pass violations received by the Fleet Management Office. Follow-up with drivers to ensure inspections are completed and violations are paid. The incumbent of this position will be required to drive State vehicles and must maintain a driver's license with less than 5 points on their driving record. 

The incumbent of this position will be responsible for  inspecting issues on the Montgomery Park grounds regarding MDE's fleet  and/or moving State vehicles, during unpleasant weather conditions. The position may call for the incumbent to walk distances. 

The incumbent of this position will be responsible for transporting boxes of paper that weight 45 pounds or relocating furniture that may weigh 50 pounds. The position will also be responsible for providing support to other staff members in the setting up of tables and chairs for various events at MDE.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Completion of 60 credit hours at an accredited college or university.

Experience: One year of experience in administrative or professional work.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute experience as defined above for the required education at the rate of one year of experience for 30 credit hours, for up to 60 credit hours of required education.

2. Candidates may substitute 90 credit hours at an accredited college or university for the required education and experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer involving staff work requiring regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting rules and regulations in accordance with agency laws and policies on a year-for-year basis for the required education and experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

It is preferred that the selected candidate has the following:

  • Experience providing customer service in a professional office setting;
  • Experience creating/updating Microsoft Excel spreadsheets;
  • Experience entering, updating or retrieving data from Microsoft Access to report statistical data and assemble reports.
  • Microsoft Office Products (i.e., Word, Access, Excel)

 

It is also preferred that the selected candidate:

  • Be able to lift 50 pounds;
  • Be detailed oriented;
  • Excellent written & communication skills.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Candidate may be responsible for providing their own transportation as needed to access meetings, remote locations, and job destinations as assigned.

It is a required of this position that the selected candidate have a valid driver's license with less than 5 points.
