Introduction
The Maryland Military Department is accepting applications from all qualified applicants for the position of Maintenance Chief I Non-Licensed. This position maintains the trade components (plumbing, carpentry, electrical, HVAC, refrigeration, locksmith, masonry, painting or welding work) for any of our forty-two (42) Maryland Army & Air National Guard Facilities, including 342 buildings, 1 operational airfield and 4 military training sites. This position is currently open in several of these facilities in different locations statewide for all trades mentioned above. You will need to indicate your trade and desired work location when completing your application.

POSITION DUTIES
Duties of this position include, but are not limited to:
· Repairs, replaces or installs trade components in their specified trade at various National Guard facilities. This can included, training facilities. Air fields, Armories and other facilities. This position will troubleshoot in their specific trade.
· Preform various maintenance and preventive maintenance functions in their particular trade at the above mentioned installations, as well as inspections of equipment and tools
· More specific assigned duties will be listed for the specific trade assigned to the position ( (examples listed below for several of the trades) and other assigned duties.
Electrician
Repair, replace or install new electrical accessories such as panel and breaker boxes, lighting fixtures, service lines, exterior pole lighting, building mounted security lighting, electrical hook-ups to a variety of machines and devices. Perform preventative maintenance and repair on electrically served ventilation systems, electric water heaters, stoves and ovens. Read blueprints and schematic diagrams pertaining to electrical and HVAC maintenance plans. Repair well pumps, magnetic starters, associated wiring/control and lightning grounding systems. Layout, excavate, repair or install PVC piping and electrical conduit.
Plumber
Repair, replace or install new plumbing accessories. Perform preventative maintenance and repair, such as water closets, flush valves, urinals, sinks, faucets, P-traps, showers, water coolers and mixing valves. Clean and repair boiler and fire boxes.
Refrigeration
Installs, repairs and maintains refrigeration and air conditioning systems. Overhauls and replaces compressors, pumps, motors and other component parts. Completes work orders, maintenance logs and other reports to track and document work performed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Eighth grade.
Experience: Two years of experience in the building maintenance or building construction trades including one year of experience assigning, reviewing and approving the work of other building maintenance or building construction workers.
Note: Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military experience at a rank of Corporal/Petty Officer or higher, as a non-commissioned officer in utilities classifications or mechanical maintenance management specialty codes in utility systems repair, on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.
1. Experience completing work orders in your trade for a facility that has multiple buildings.
2. Experience in troubleshooting in your trade.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
1. All candidates are subject to a criminal background check.
2. Employees in this classification may be subject to call-in 24-hours a day and may be required to provide the employing agency with a telephone number where they can be reached.
