This full time contractual position will plan and develop communications, engage stakeholders, and lead data dissemination efforts for federally funded enhanced surveillance systems for violent death including the Maryland Violent Death Reporting System (MVDRS) and State Unintentional Drug Overdose Reporting System(SUDORS). This position will be housed within the Center for Environmental, Occupational, and Injury Epidemiology in the Environmental Health Bureau at Maryland Department of Health. This position will also provide technical assistance and conduct health education and communication to meet the needs of internal and external stakeholders. This position will build and maintain partnerships and promotes state, local, and community stakeholder use of surveillance system data to inform programs, planning, policy, and prevention efforts to reduce homicide, suicide, fatal overdose, and other violent death within the State of Maryland. This position will support grant and contract monitoring and reporting to funders. This position will also support the Environmental Health Bureau’s response to shared risk and protective factors, emerging issues, and emergencies including but not limited to community health education activities and products.

Education:   A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Public Health Education, Community Health Education or Health Science.

Experience: Two years of experience planning, developing, implementing and promoting health education projects.

Notes: 1. Candidates may substitute a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum of 18 credit hours in Public Health Education, Community Health Education, Health Science or related behavioral science and three years of experience planning, developing, implementing and promoting health education projects for the required education and experience.

2. Candidates may substitute a Master’s degree in Public Health, Community Health Education, or Health Science for the required education and one year of the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute a Doctorate degree in Public Health, Community Health Education, Health Science or Public Health Policy for the required education and experience.

4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Health Educator and Community Health classifications or Health Educator and Community Health specialty codes in the Public Health field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.

The desired candidate should have experience evaluating community health education programs, experience translating data in to community health education products and tools, excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to communicate effectively with different audiences and conduct stakeholder engagement and skills preparing and using communication plans.

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
