Main Purpose of Job

Conduct reemployment workshops for profiled claimants and other qualified job seekers to enhance job seeking skills and to lessen the duration of unemployment. Conduct eligibility reviews to determine issues for job search for claimants and make appropriate referrals for adjudication.

POSITION DUTIES

Planning job search workshops of not less than the required hours for RESEA completion. Preparing and organizing materials that will be presented on a regular basis to profiled Unemployment Insurance claimants and other qualified job seekers; Conducting orientation workshops to improve attendees’ job search techniques and enhance their employability. Completes administrative duties related to workshops and participants by: Developing attendance roster and/or rescheduling customers for future classes based on responses from workshop attendance letters; Documenting results of workshops using the automated data system; Notifying Unemployment Insurance supervisor or designee of claimants' failure to report to the workshop or non-completion within specified time limits as directed; Notifying Unemployment Insurance designee of claimants who have not met their 60 day obligations post RESEA workshop. Provides individualized customer service and labor exchange assistance by: Coaching and guiding individual customers in employment development planning, résumé preparation and/or software instruction; Referring workshop completers to available appropriate jobs for which they qualify or to training, and performing job development when necessary.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:   Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Three years of experience in the field of workforce development involving conducting interviews with persons seeking employment and providing assistance to employers needing qualified personnel to fill vacancies.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute additional experience in workforce development taking job orders from employers, conducting job-ready interviews, registering job applicants, verifying job referrals, conducting vocational placements, performing unemployment adjudications, or appraising job applicants for employability on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Candidates may substitute education at an accredited college or university at the rate of thirty credit hours for one year of experience for up to two years of the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute active duty military recruiting experience or career counseling experience on a year-by-year basis for the required education or experience.

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

One year of customer service experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

At least three year’s experience developing and facilitating presentations to large groups on workforce and/or business development topics.

Ability to speak Spanish or other languages.

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.

Leave may be granted to a contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
