LOCATION OF POSITION

Several positions are located throughout the State of Maryland.  Therefore, the resulting eligible list will be used to fill current and future vacancies. When completing the application, please select all locations in which you are willing to work.

Main Purpose of Job

A Correctional Case Management Specialist Trainee is the entry level of work in assessing and evaluating the personal and criminal history of adult inmates to recommend a security level and in developing and monitoring appropriate work and educational programs. Employees in this classification do not supervise other positions.

Employees in this classification receive close supervision from a Correctional Case Management Supervisor.  Work is performed in an adult correctional environment and involves frequent contact with convicted felons.

POSITION DUTIES

· Attends formal training courses at the Maryland Correctional Training Academy

· Learns to interview inmates to obtain information used to determine the appropriate security levels, work assignments and educational programs

· Learns to meet with inmates individually to help resolve inmates’ institutional and personal problems

· Learns to maintain an accurate and up-to-date base file on each inmate

· Learns to review an inmate's file to determine the inmate's needs and eligibility for specialized programs

· Learns to develop program goals designed to address the inmate's educational, vocational and therapeutic needs

· Consults with program staff to monitor the inmate's progress in reaching program goals

· Contacts public and private agencies and families of inmates to secure background information

· Learns the Division of Correction regulations and the institutional directives of the employing agency

· Learns to prepare pre-parole summaries and make recommendations on the inmates' suitability for parole

· May visit Pre-Release work sites to monitor the inmate's and the employer's compliance with Division of Correction regulation

Performs other related duties


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience: None.

Note: The above educational requirement is set by the Maryland Correctional Training Commission in accordance with Title 12, Subtitle 10 of the Code of Maryland Regulations.

 

In order to meet the educational requirement the degree should be listed on your application or an unofficial copy of your degree or transcript should accompany your application. 

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Employees who have not already done so must meet the required selection standards and successfully complete the training prescribed by the Maryland Correctional Training Commission for a Correctional Classification Counselor. Selection standards for correctional training are listed in detail in the Code of Maryland Regulations 12.10.09 and include the following:

U.S Citizenship or Resident Alien status
Must be at least 21 years of age
A completed background investigation
Oral interview
Physical examination.

2. Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.

EXAMINATION PROCESS

All persons who meet the minimum and selective qualification will be approved on the certification list and will be placed on the employment (eligible) list for at least one year.
