Main Purpose of Job
This full time contractual Epidemiologist III will serve as an Informatics Specialist for the Maryland Department of Health, Contact Tracing Unit. This position will organize, store, analyze, present contact tracing data in a meaningful way to inform public health practice. Job duties will include: Developing and generating processes and outcome metrics; Analyzing data for and developing dashboards and reports for the Maryland Department of Health, Local Health Departments and public needs; and, Conducting quality assurance and taking corrective actions to improve data quality.
Education: A Master’s degree in the field of Public Health from an accredited college or university with a minimum of three graduate courses in Epidemiology and one graduate course in Biostatistics.
Experience: Three years of experience as an Epidemiologist after receipt of the Master’s degree.
1. Candidates may substitute a Doctoral degree in the field of Public Health from an accredited college or university with a minimum of six graduate courses in Epidemiology and three graduate courses in Biostatistics for the required education and experience.
2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Health Care Science classifications or Clinical Lab, Medical Scientists, or Bio Medical Lab Officer specialty codes in the health research field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
The successful applicant should possess:
At least three years of experience with a health data system (electronic medical records, public health surveillance, laboratory information management system, etc) and managing interconnectivity of that system with other systems;
Experience with messaging standards (e.g., HL7 messaging);
Experience working in statistical analysis and visualization environments (e.g., SPSS, R, Stata, SAS, Tableau, PowerBi, R Shiny, ArcGIS, etc.); and,
Experience working in public health at the federal, state or local level and in a high pressure setting with time-sensitive demands.

Candidates may remain on the certified eligible list for a period of at least one year. The resulting certified eligible list for this recruitment may be used for similar positions in this or other State agencies.
Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.
Leave may be granted to a contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
