POSITION DUTIES

This position performs the supervisory level of work reviewing, verifying, and interpreting in formation in order to make determinations and resolve problems involving the calculation of adult inmate prison sentences in accordance with State laws and the regulations and policies of the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services. A supervisor develops, recommends, and implements modifications of commitment records operations and procedures to improve efficiency. This position plans, coordinates, and supervises the work of lower-level Commitment Records Specialist positions and establishes work priorities and deadlines to meet agency requirements. This position trains lower-level Commitment Records Specialists in the appropriate application of laws, regulations, policies, and procedures to the calculation of inmate prison sentences and the maintenance of commitment records and files. Employees in this classification authorize the release of inmates. A supervisor receives general supervision from a Commitment Records Specialist Manager. The work may be performed in an adult correctional environment. Employees are subject to call-in 24 hours-a-day.

Assigns and reviews the work of employees.
Trains employees.
Recommends the selection, promotion and termination of employees.
Approves leave and signs time cards.
Evaluates the performance of employees. 
Determines and resolves procedural problems within the unit.
Explains policies and directives from management and issues formal disciplinary reminders and warnings. 
Reviews and verifies the calculation of inmate terms and release dates to determine when inmates should be released.
Executes documents authorizing the release of inmates. 
In accordance with applicable laws, regulation, policies and procedure.
Reviews sentencing and release orders, and accurately computes  inmate terms, diminution credits and release dates. 
Accurately records calculations, credits and release dates within commitment and diminution records. 
Verifies accuracy in calculations of inmate terms, credits and release dates.
Successfully completes automated systems, commitment and management development training as designated by the director. 
Successfully completes additional training as designated by the manager.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must meet all minimum (and selective) qualifications to be considered, and to appear on the list of people eligible for hire. Please read all requirements before applying.

Education:   Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Three years of experience in reviewing, verifying, and interpreting information in order to make determinations and resolve problems involving the calculation of prison sentences in accordance with applicable laws, and the regulations and policies of the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services. One year of this experience must be in leading the work of Commitment Records staff.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.

1. One year experience leading the work of Commitment Records staff.
2. Three years experience in calculating inmate terms of confinement, awarding diminution credits, and the recalculation of terms and diminution credits due to revocation of parole or mandatory supervision.  
3. One year experience in preparing and verifying cases for the release process.

Employees in this classification are subject to call-in 24 hours a day and may be required to provide the employing agency with a telephone number where the employee can be reached.
