Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of the position is to assist the Director of Performance Improvement, Risk Management and Patient Safety in providing leadership to the organization in the areas of Performance Improvement and Patient Safety. This includes activities surrounding performance improvement, patient safety, risk management, policy development and utilization management. Support the mission/vision of the organization through active participation in clinical efforts to provide treatment in a recovery oriented environment. The foundation of a recovery oriented environment is respect and a commitment to safety in the least restrictive manner possible.

Duties assigned to this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing leadership to the hospital leadership and relevant committees regarding performance improvement and patient safety/risk management issues
  • Providing leadership and managerial supervision to the staff of the performance improvement and patient safety department in the absence of the director of performance improvement and patient safety
  • Reviewing information submitted regarding the events, triaging events by severity and injury level, insuring proper actions are taken, following up on actions taken and analyzing events for patterns, reporting internally and externally, preparing monthly, quarterly and annual safety reports
  • Facilitating changes to the Patient Safety Program and preparing reports for the Governing Body in accordance with the Maryland Patient Safety Regulations of the OHCQ

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or a related field from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Two years of experience as a Registered Nurse.

Note: Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Nursing classifications or Nursing specialty codes in the Nursing Instruction field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The desired candidate should possess experience:

  • participating in and/or leading committees
  • working with the Joint Commission
  • utilizing Microsoft Office Suite

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current license as a Registered Nurse from the Maryland State Board of Nursing, 4140 Patterson Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21215 or possess a current multi-state license in party states that candidates have declared as primary states of residence.

2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

3. Employees in this classification may be required to successfully complete and maintain a current certification of cardiopulmonary resuscitation training.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Employees in this classification are subject to call-in and, therefore, will be required to provide the facility with a phone number at which they can be reached.
