MDH Western Maryland Hospital Center, Hagerstown MD

Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to supervise the Nursing Education Department, while providing guidance and engagement in the assessment of staff learning needs and in the development, planning, and implementation of Clinical Education initiatives for the facility. This position will provide formal nursing instruction or inservice training to licensed and non-licensed nursing staff and will supervise Nurse Instructors and Clinical Education staff.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A Master’s degree in Nursing or a health related field from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Three years of experience as a Registered Nurse to include two years as an instructor.

Note: Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Nursing classifications or Nursing  specialty codes in the Nursing Instruction field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The desired candidate should possess:

  • strong medical nursing skills
  • strong written, oral communication and presentation skills
  • experience as a clinical educator, including staff development and empowerment and leadership development
  • familiarity with long-term care/nursing home education regulations/standards
  • ability to supervise and direct clinical educators/instructors

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1.Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current license as a Registered Nurse from the Maryland State Board of Nursing, 4140 Patterson Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21215.

2.Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of an automobile. Employees assigned such duties will be re required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

3.Employees in this classification may be required to successfully complete and maintain a current certification of cardiopulmonary resuscitation training.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Employees in this classification are subject to call-in and, therefore, will be required to provide the facility with a phone number at which they can be reached.
