POSITION DUTIES

Functions on full performance level of a Registered Nurse responsible for coordinating, organizing, managing, monitoring and evaluating 24 hour nursing care on unit as assigned. Reports to Nursing Administration Team and collaborates with Supervisory Nursing Personnel and Clinical Nurse Specialists for overall function of the unit. Ensures nursing care is delivered consistently in accordance with Nurse Practice Act standards, DHMH, facility and departmental guidelines. Supports the mission of the organization through active participation in clinical efforts to provide treatment in a recovery oriented environment. The foundation of a recovery oriented environment is respect and a commitment to safety in the least restrictive manner possible.

Some job responsibilities may include, but are not limited to;
  • Participates in and assures the maintenance of a safe, therapeutic milieu by assessment which is based on the direct observation and communication with unit nursing personnel. 
  • Directly assesses and monitors assigned personnel and milieu for changing needs.
  • Assures and assists in the completion of delegated tasks including unit management issues and ongoing evaluation/PEP process. 
  • Facilitates changes in overall unit and Nursing function
  • Provides monitoring, assessment, and implementation of any staff education, counseling and/or progressive disciplinary action for any employee performance issues of those supervised. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Determined by the Maryland State Board of Nursing under the licensing requirements for Registered Nurses.

Experience: Three years of experience as a Registered Nurse to include one year in a supervisory, administrative or teaching capacity and two years in the Psychiatric option.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or a related field from an accredited college or university for one year of the required general experience.

2. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Master’s degree in Nursing or a health related field from an accredited college or university for two years of the required general experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Nursing classifications or Nursing and Hospital Administration specialty codes in the Nursing field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.

1. Experience providing education to lower level staff. 
2. Experience delegating tasks to lower level staff. 

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current license as a Registered Nurse from the Maryland State Board of Nursing, 4140 Patterson Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21215 or possess a current multi-state license in party states that candidates have declared as primary states of residence.

2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of an automobile. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

3. Employees in this classification may be required to successfully complete cardiopulmonary resuscitation training and maintain current certification.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Employees in this classification are subject to call-in and, therefore, will be required to provide the facility with a phone number at which they can be reached.

2. Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.
