Main Purpose of Job

The Occupational Therapist (OT/L) is a clinical level position with the Division of Rehabilitation Technology Services, Rehabilitation Technology Services that specializes in providing Occupational Therapy/Assistive Technology services when applied, promote employment, economic self-sufficiency and/or independence of individuals with disabilities. This position must maintain a yearly license from the Maryland State Board of Occupational Therapy Practice. Services occur within the Workforce and Technology Center, home, community, and worksite.

POSITION DUTIES

This is a clinical level position responsible for performing assistive technology services in the Rehabilitation Technology Services Department. Select and administer appropriate occupational therapy assessment tools and perform detailed and comprehensive clinical assessments of individuals with disabilities to determine potential need for and benefit from ergonomic and adapted equipment, workstations, computer based and other assistive technology.  Analyze and interpret test results and make recommendations that address the functional limitations.  Perform adapted and non-adapted clinical pre-driving assessments utilizing standardized assessment tools.  Conducts clinical evaluation of consumer's physical abilities and functional limitations in a clinical setting, as well as, in a vehicle.  Observes consumers in vehicle for transfers, positioning and accessibility of vehicle controls.  Provide assessments at home, community and work sites.  Set up computer systems and a variety of assistive technology, occupational therapy, and ergonomic products.  Work collaboratively with RTS Worksite Services Case Manager and employers for the delivery of training and set up services to employed consumers at their worksite.  Conduct training on alternative physical access to computers, such as voice recognition software.  Provide technical support to individuals who have received equipment.  Set up ergonomic workstations for consumers participating in WTC training programs.  Performs case management duties and completes required documentation including written reports.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:   Determined by the Maryland State Board of Occupational Therapy Practice under the licensing requirements for Occupational Therapists.

Experience: Three years of experience as an occupational therapist.

Notes:

1. A Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy may be substituted for two years of the required experience.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Therapy classifications or Therapy specialty codes in the Occupation Therapy field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience. 

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current license as an Occupational Therapist from the Maryland State Board of Occupational Therapy Practice, Spring Grove Hospital Center, 55 Wade Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21228.
