POSITION DUTIES
The primary function for this IT Systems Technical Specialist (ITSTS) is network planning, network designing and developing network improvements for 100 locations across the state. This position serves as the Senior Network Engineer that responsible for providing the highest level of technical expertise for the Office of Technology for Human Services (OTHS) enterprise network and communication infrastructure to ensure 99.9% network availability statewide.
The job includes performing in-depth network analysis to ensure compatibility between the existing systems and new ones (e.g. MDTHINK). The Senior Network Engineer is responsible for developing, monitoring, implementation, maintenance, and troubleshooting network infrastructure activities across the enterprise. The Senior Network Engineer (SNE) also provides technical advice and guidance to other technical staff within DHS and recommends solutions for projects with other stakeholders (e.g. other state agencies, federal agencies and county governments). Furthermore, the SNE analyses and designs projects involving DHS network security systems such as firewalls, Intrusion Detection System (IDS), and Virtual Private Network (VPN) systems.
Additionally, this position ensures the continual provision of excellent customer service to promote and support the use of technology that enables productivity, and further enhances the level of customer satisfaction.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.
Two years of experience in network architecture design, implementation, management, and troubleshooting.
Possession of a CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate) or CCNP (Cisco Certified Network Professional)certification.
One year of design and deployment experience in MPLS (Multi-Protocol Label Switching), BGP (Border Gateway Protocol), EIGRP (Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol), or SDWAN (Software Defined Networking).
Advanced expertise with routers, switches, firewalls, remote access and wireless systems.
Expertise in network performance monitoring tools.
Hands-on experience with DNS, URL filtering, content filtering, and IP addressing.
Working knowledge of VoIP. Strong experience with network documentation using Visio, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
