POSITION DUTIES

The Comptroller’s General Accounting Division is looking for two (2) dynamic Staff Accountants for our Financial Reporting Team. The 'Systems Control Accountant II, Comptroller' performs all accounting duties assigned to the Financial Reporting department. This involves supporting various accounting functions pertaining to the division's general ledger, preparing the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR), reconciling bank accounts, providing technical accounting direction and guidance to State agencies, and implementing new technology. PLEASE NOTE: No vacation requests will be granted from July 15 – Oct 15 and September 15 – December 15.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A bachelor’s degree in Accounting from an accredited college or university or a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with 30 credit hours in Accounting and related courses, including or supplemented by three credit hours in auditing.

Experience: One year of experience ensuring appropriate and consistent interpretation of and compliance with statutory and generally accepted accounting principles in a fiscal control agency or one year of experience supervising professional accounting functions.

NOTE:

  1. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in financial management classification or financial management specialty codes in the accounting field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.

** For education obtained outside of the U.S., you will be required to provide proof of the equivalent American education as determined by a foreign credential evaluation service. If you possess a degree obtained outside of the United States, please submit a detailed, course-by-course evaluation report from one of the U.S. equivalency evaluating members identified at http://www.naces.org/members.html.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience reconciling and researching complex general ledger accounts
  • Experience preparing journal entries with supporting documentation and schedules
  • Experience documenting complex accounting procedures in a detailed manner
  • Familiarity with R*STARS or other full scale enterprise accounting software
  • Proficiency in Excel and Google Docs
  • Strong organization and attention to detail
  • Self-starter with excellent communication skills
  • CPA
  • Public Accounting experience

EXAMINATION PROCESS

Qualifying applicants are subject to an oral interview. Prior to appointment, the employee must successfully undergo a comprehensive background investigation including a review of criminal, MVA and tax records; and determination of legal authorization to work in the United States or under the United States Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986. This background check is comprehensive and may involve fingerprinting. Upon initial appointment OR promotion to a position in the State Personnel Management System, an employee is required to serve an initial six- month probationary period. This probationary period may be extended an additional six months under certain circumstances at the discretion of the appointing authority.
