Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to provide leadership, management and vision over all programs and services provided by the Caroline County Health Department.  These programs and services include communicable disease, immunizations, maternal and child health, community data collection, trending and surveillance, health assessment, planning and quality improvement, health education programs, chronic disease prevention, emergency preparedness and environmental health regulation, inspection and licensing.  The Health Department has 90 full time merit and contractual employees, 18 part time employees and an annual budget of $8.8 million.   

Caroline County is a rural community located approximately 90 minutes from the metropolitan Baltimore and Washington D.C areas. Sixty percent of land in the county is used for agricultural, which 30 percent remain undeveloped.  Caroline County offers small town living, an outstanding public-school system and affordable housing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Qualified candidates must possess a degree in medicine from an accredited college or university, a master’s degree in public health from an accredited college or university and at least two years of experience as a licensed physician working in the field of public health.   

Applicants may substitute five years of experience as a licensed physician working in the field of public health for the requirement of a master’s degree in public health and two years as a licensed physician working in the field of public health.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Applicants for this classification must be licensed and currently registered with the Maryland Board of Physicians to practice medicine under Maryland State Law. A copy of the current registration must be attached to the application.

SELECTION PROCESS

This is a Management Service position and serves at the pleasure of the Appointing Authority.  A resume must accompany your application.
