Introduction
The Employee Benefits Division of the Department of Budget and Management, a State agency, has a permanent full time position available for an Employee Benefits Specialist II within our System Support Unit.

Main Purpose of Job
POSITION DUTIES
Reviews and processes benefits events in the Statewide Personnel System (Workday) and conduct appropriate research to address benefits eligibility questions; Approve or reject events in Workday in accordance with benefits policy; Exercising tact and diplomacy, at times may handle telephone inquiries in a high-volume call center, customer-oriented environment; |
Learn the SPS Help Desk ticketing system (Mojo); monitor for assigned tickets, enter tickets, review tickets, research issues as needed, and resolve problems to close out the ticket. |
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
Experience: One year of experience responding to inquiries, calculating program eligibility, counseling and advising persons concerning health benefits.

1. Candidates may substitute additional experience responding to inquiries, calculating program eligibility, counseling and advising persons concerning health benefits may be substituted on a year-for- year basis for the required education.
2. Candidates may substitute the possession of an additional 30 credit hours from an accredited college or university in Business Management, Business Administration, Human Resources or Public Administration for the required experience.
3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Human Resources classifications or Human Resources specialty codes if the work includes benefits-related experience on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS
Have six months of experience working in a fast paced environment while interacting with participants that are in the State of Maryland’s Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program. This requires using clear and concise language both written and spoken.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Strong preference will be given to previous HR Generalist whose primary focus was on benefit administration with a working knowledge of Workday, PeopleSoft, or an Oracle background.
Experience involving deadline management and handling multiple items while managing personal workload is strongly preferred.
Computer aptitude, including use of Human Resource Information Systems, help desk ticketing systems, and applications like MS Office and Google Mail Services is desired.LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
