Salary Range: $60,514 to  $78,859  (with progression to $97,159)

Main Purpose of Job

This is a professional position serving as the Chief, Program Compliance Section, responsible for ensuring the integrity of all participating Child Nutrition Program institutions and Local Educational Agencies (LEAs) by leading, planning, and directing the assessment and monitoring activities of the Program Compliance specialists.

POSITION DUTIES

This position ensures that optimum nutrition standards are available for all education and sponsoring agencies throughout the State of Maryland; supervises  staff evaluating the various nutrition programs for compliance with State and federal regulations; schedules program reviews, monitors the training of new staff and revises review practices and standards to reflect new federal guidance; provides technical and training assistance to Child Nutrition Programs (CNP) sponsors; works with the Director of the Office of School and Community Nutrition Programs(OSCNP) to ensure that programs comply with applicable laws and regulations; acts as liaison with the OSCNP Administration and  Professional Development Section Chiefs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION: A Masters Degree or equivalent 36 credit hours of post baccalaureate course work in Nutrition, Dietetics, Administration, Public Health or a related area.

EXPERIENCE: Five (5) years of professional experience in assessing compliance with federal law and regulations or Child Nutrition Programs.  Supervisory experience preferred.  

Notes: 

  1. Two additional years of experience may be substituted for the Master’s degree or 36 hours of equivalent post-baccalaureate course work.
  2. The above requirements are set by the Maryland State Department of Education in accordance with Education Article, Section 2-104.

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

One year experience with monitoring compliance with Child Nutrition Programs, including the National School Lunch Program, School Breakfast Program and Child and Adult Care Food Program

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of federal laws and regulations governing food service and School and Community Nutrition Programs; knowledge of United State Department of Agriculture (USDA) regulations; knowledge of food safety, menu planning, food production; skill in organizing, developing, and conducting training programs; skill in developing and interpreting  policies and procedures, assess programs, identify problems, and determine improvements/solutions; ability to organize and manage multiple tasks; ability to conduct institutional analysis of menus; demonstrated ability to lead and mentor staff, preferably involving review of CNPs; demonstrated ability to interpret pertinent law and provide technical assistance to participants; ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
