Introduction

The Maryland State Retirement Agency is the administrator of the Maryland State Retirement and Pension System.  The System is a multi-employer, public employees’ benefit retirement system composed of twelve (12) separate retirement and pension systems with additional plan components, covering approximately 245,000 active members and more than 160,000 retires and beneficiaries. The Agency is seeking a Fixed Income investment professional, or an investments specialist aspiring to become a Fixed Income professional, to serve as Senior Investment Analyst in the Fixed Income unit of the Investment Division.  The Senior Investment Analyst reports directly to the Managing Director of Fixed Income. Under the direction of the Managing Director, the Senior Investment Analyst will assist in the monitoring of portfolio investments, reporting regarding both externally and internally managed portfolios, performing pre and post trading tasks, performing quantitative analyses as assigned. This is a Management Service position and serves at the pleasure of the Appointing Authority.

Main Purpose of Job

* Leads the monitoring and reporting efforts of one or more asset classes.

* Actively participates in the internal management initiative.

* Leads quantitative research projects.

POSITION DUTIES

This individual will work collaboratively with the Managing Director and the Fixed Income Portfolio Managers to support the overall investment program. The Senior Investment Analyst will perform regular reviews and evaluations of external managers, including performance attribution and exposure analysis; work collaboratively with the operations and legal teams in the initiation and maintenance of accounts; track and model investment performance and exposures; assist the Managing Director in preparing presentation materials for Investment Division staff or for Investment Committee meetings; assist in the development of interns; assist in the maintenance of records related to investments; and contribute to all Fixed Income team objectives as assigned or as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:  Possession of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited four year college in Math, Science, Economics, Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Public Administration, or similar fields of study.

Experience:  Two years of professional investment experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to candidates with:

*  Progress towards a CFA designation and/or a graduate degree in Math, Science, Economics, Finance, Business Administration, Public Administration or similar field of study. 

*  At least five (5) years of professional experience working with Fixed Income portfolio managers and traders.

* Desirable software skills:  Proficient level in Microsoft Excel; Word; PowerPoint; Bloomberg and Factset.
