We are currently recruiting Graduate and Undergraduate college students to work with us this summer. The Student Technical Assistant classification is used to hire college students for temporary positions.

College Transcripts are required to verify coursework completion and current enrollment.

The Department of Housing and Community Development Headquarters is located in Prince George's County across from the New Carrollton Metro stop.

Free parking is available to the Department's employees on site at the present time; however, please be advised that this is subject to change.  The Department is also accessible by MARC, WMATA, and other public transportation options.

POSITION DUTIES

Maryland Department of Housing and Community Developing is currently recruiting Student Technical Assistant positions to hire college students for several temporary summer internship positions within the Department. This great opportunity is for graduate and undergraduate students currently enrolled in college who are passionate about our mission and committed to the work at Department to make a difference. This internship will provide a meaningful experience to students by assigning special projects and hands-on-experience in our professional work environment.

We currently have opportunities in the following areas:

Office of the Secretary

The Office of the Secretary provides leadership, policy direction, and resources to ensure the Department accomplishes its mission and goals. It supervises and coordinates the Department’s activities, approves all revenue bonds issued by the Community Development Administration for housing and local infrastructure projects, and provides support services to the Department, including Legislative Affairs, Communications and Marketing, Research, Legal Services, Fair Practices, Human Resources Management and Department Operations.

Division of Community Development Administration

The Division of Community Development Administration (CDA) is comprised of three branches: Multifamily Housing, Single Family Housing and CDA Finance.

CDA Multifamily Housing expands quality, affordable rental and transitional housing opportunities for Marylanders by financing the development, rehabilitation, and preservation of rental communities and transitional housing, and by administering rental assistance programs and the Federal Low Income Housing Tax Credit program.

CDA Single Family Housing provides homebuyer assistance programs by offering mortgage loans and down payment and closing cost assistance to eligible homebuyers with low-to moderate-income, programs to rehabilitate single family rental housing to improve basic livability, and programs to meet unique housing needs, including lead paint reduction, weatherization assistance and financing for persons with special needs.

CDA Finance raises capital in the national municipal bond markets to provide financing at below-market interest rates for individuals to purchase single family homes for nonprofit and for-profit entities to construct and rehabilitate multifamily properties, and for local governments to improve and construct public infrastructure. CDA’s primary financing sources are municipal bonds and State-appropriated funds.

Division of Finance and Administration

The Division of Finance and Administration (DFA) oversees the financial management and central support services in the Department.  The Division provides financial, analytical, internal review and reporting; prepares and manages the operating and capital budgets.  The Division also oversees the accounting for the Department’s expenditures and revenues for budgetary and grant accounting; as well as preparing audited financial statements for the Maryland Housing Fund and the State-funded loan and grant programs. The Division also coordinates and provides procurement and purchasing services.  

Neighborhood Revitalization

The Division of Neighborhood Revitalization (NR) works with the Department to bring new investments and vitality to Maryland’s core communities. NR’s broad range of loan, grant and technical assistance programs help local governments, nonprofit organizations and small businesses reinvest in their communities and make great places for Marylanders to live, work and prosper.     

Division of Credit Assurance

The Division of Credit Assurance (DCA) provide assistance for a variety of mortgage insurance and credit enhancement programs, all of which stabilize and strengthen housing and communities throughout the state.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

In order to be eligible for this opportunity, students must have completed freshman, sophomore, junior or senior year in an undergraduate program and be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program. Students must have at least 30 undergraduate semester credits to be considered.

Relevant College Majors: Public Administration, Public Policy, Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, Management, Economics, Journalism, Mass Communications, Advertising, Marketing, Liberal Arts, or another related field.

Transcripts are required to verify education and must be uploaded and attached to the online application for consideration.

Please Note: The Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development is not sponsoring new employees in application of the H-1B Visa at this time due to budgetary constraints. All applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States under the Immigration and Reform Control Act of 1986. Federal regulations prohibit H-1B Visa candidates from paying sponsorship fees, all sponsorship fees must be assumed by the potential employer.
