MDH/Calvert County Health Department, Safe Harbor Shelter, Prince Frederick, Maryland

Main Purpose of Job

This position will perform clerical and fiscal duties, along with assisting to provide a safe and secure home environment for shelter residents. This position will confer with the Shelter Manager on policy and procedure development and modifications, in order to address house and residential needs, and subsequent implementation thereof.


This position will also interact with residents, in regards to daily activities, including appointments; transportation; care for any children; referrals; and, household activities. Furthermore, this position will attend meetings with other agencies, in order to expand the residential service network, Safe Harbor, Inc., and the advocacy fundraising board.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Two years of experience performing clerical duties.

Notes:

1. Additional experience performing clerical duties may be substituted, on a year-for-year basis, for the required education.

2. Applicants may substitute education from an accredited college or university, at the rate of thirty semester credit hours for one year of experience, on a year-for-year basis, for the required experience.

3. Six months of clerical training, with three courses in subjects such as, keyboarding; clerical math; word processing; spreadsheets; database; graphics presentation; proofreading; or, office etiquette, may be substituted for six months of the requires experience.

4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a Non-Commissioned Officer in Administrative classifications or in Administrative, Clerical, or Office Services specialty codes in the Clerical Support field of work, on a year-for-year basis, for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The desired candidate should have experience working in a shelter that is open 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. The desired candidate should also have experience completing case management duties, including overseeing the admission intake of new shelter residents, as well as overseeing both the weekly action planning and exit planning of a shelter.
