Main Purpose of Job

The Prevention and Health Promotion Administration's (PHPA) mission is to protect, promote and improve the health and well being of all Marylanders and their families through provision of public health leadership and through community-based public health efforts in partnership with local health department, providers, community-based organizations, and public and private sector agencies, giving special attention to at-risk and vulnerable populations. The Infectious Disease Prevention and Health Services Bureau has approximately 140 employees and a budget of over $150 million.

This position serves as the Deputy Director of the Bureau of Infectious Disease Prevention and Health Services (Bureau) within PHPA. The position assists the Director in managing the internal operations of the Bureau, including fiscal and administrative oversight, personnel functions, strategic and operational planning, and Bureau work force development.


Qualified candidates must possess a master's degree and at least six years of experience related to public health prevention, care coordination and/or service delivery.  Candidates must also possess four years of supervisory and management experience.


Desired candidates should possess:

  • Experience developing and implementing internal policies and procedures including grant and contract management, administrative functions, and human resources;
  • Experience managing personnel functions and staff development; and,
  • Experience managing program collaboration and service integration efforts that involve championing the integration of HIV, STI, viral hepatitis, and harm reduction programs.


This is a Management Service position and serves at the pleasure of the Appointing Authority.  A resume must accompany your application.
