Main Purpose of Job

This position provides the supervisory level of clinical psychiatric services to patients suffering from behavioral health care issues who are in need of treatment. Position functions as a Unit/Ward Administrator responsible for unit/ward services and supervises lower level psychiatrists or physicians and other health care support staff. Psychiatric medical care is provided in the Behavioral Health Administration in a 24/7 facility in central Maryland by licensed and board certified psychiatrists.

Some job responsibilities may include, but are not limited to; 
  • Provides supervision and guidance to psychiatrists/physicians and clinical staff on the ward and to clinical staff or physicians who are assigned to particular clients on the ward.  
  • Conducts staff meetings for the purpose of interpreting and implementing hospital policies and procedures.
  • Manages scheduling, operations and administrative issues including handling emergencies 24/7 on the ward.
  •  In conjunction with leadership and the treatment team, design, develop and implement treatment modalities that meet the unique clinical needs of the general patient population on the ward at any given time.
  • Plans and participates in the psychiatric medical care of patients in a 24 hour Maryland Department of Health facility. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Determined by the Maryland State Board of Physicians under the licensing requirements for Physicians.  

Experience: As required for certification In Psychiatry by the American Medical Association Specialty Board or other Board approved by the Maryland Board of Physicians.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred candidates will possess the following:

  • Experience with the forensic population; and,
  • Participation in and/or leading committees.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Applicants must be board certified in Psychiatry by the American Board of Medical Specialties, or other Board approved by the Maryland Board of Physicians.  

2. Applicants must be licensed by the Maryland Board of Physicians to practice medicine under Maryland State Law. A copy of a current Maryland medical license and board certification should be attached to the application.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Employees In this classification are subject to substance abuse testing In accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.
