Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to provide forensic and psychological services to patients in order to facilitate treatment and recovery with the goal of increasing optimal patient functioning and facilitating rapid and successful community re-entry/resolution of charges.

Some job responsibilities may include, but are not limited to: 
  • Performs Forensic Services as needed, including pre-trial evaluations of competency to stand trial and criminal responsibility, risk assessments, court appearances and expert testimony. 
  • Functions as an Acute Care/Forensic Services Liaison, including fostering/monitoring the flow on information between admission units and the office of Forensic Services regarding the legal and treatment status of Court-Ordered patients including attending morning report and Treatment Team meetings of forensic patients on assigned unit. 
  • Selects, administers, scores and interprets psychological tests to assess intellectual functioning, personality structure, interests, aptitudes and other psychological factors as needed for inclusion in forensic evaluations, or to inform the treatment of patients with legal, substance abuse and trauma issues. 
  • Attend and participate in training seminars and case conferences within the postdoctoral fellowship program. 
  • Attend and participate in weekly clinical supervision sessions. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:   A Doctorate degree in Psychology as defined by the Health Occupations Article, Title 18-101 (g), Annotated Code of Maryland.

Experience: One year of supervised experience rendering direct psychological services, providing psychological assessments, and evaluating the delivery of psychological services.

Notes: 

1. Candidates may substitute the completion of a twelve month full-time or twenty-four month half-time internship in rendering psychological services for the required experience, provided the internship is a requirement for the Doctorate degree in Psychology.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience at a rank of Corporal/Petty Officer or higher as a commissioned officer in Clinical Psychology classifications or Psychology specialty codes in the Psychology field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

In accordance with the Health Occupations Article, 18-301 (b4), Annotated Code of Maryland, employees in this classification are required at the time of hire to apply jointly with the supervising Psychologist to the State Board of Examiners of Psychologists for an exemption from licensure.  The exemption must be received within six months of submitting the application.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Candidates for this classification may be given a medical examination to determine their ability to perform job related functions.

2. Employees in this classification must be licensed as a Psychologist by the Maryland Board of Examiners of Psychologists within three years of appointment to a position.
