Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this full-time contractual position is to supervise lower-level Nutritionists and paraprofessionals within the local WIC program. In addition, this position will conduct health and nutrition assessments, as well as provide nutritional care and follow up on high-risk referrals.

Furthermore, this position will plan, develop, and implement nutrition education plans, while maintaining representation at outreach events, according to annual outreach plans. Finally, this position will submit monthly reports of outreach endeavors and conduct presentations to community members about nutrition, health and the WIC program.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Determined by the Maryland State Board of Dietetic Practice, under the licensing requirements for Nutritionists and Dietitians.

Experience: Three years of experience providing professional nutrition or dietetic services, one year of which must include experience in a public health or community setting.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Master’s degree in Community Health, Nutrition or Public Health from an accredited college or university for one year of the required general experience.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a Commissioned Officer in Dietitian and Nutritionist classification, or Dietitian and Nutritionist specialty codes in the Dietitian field of work, on a year-for-year basis, for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The desired candidate should have supervisory experience, as well as experience using Microsoft Office programs and Google Calendar. 

The desired candidate should also have professional experience with nutrition education & counseling, along with experience conducting a presentation in front of a group of people.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current license as a Dietitian or Nutritionist from the Maryland State Board of Dietetic Practice, 4201 Patterson Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21215, prior to permanent appointment.

2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

SELECTION PROCESS

Candidates may remain on the certified eligible list for a period of at least one year. The resulting certified eligible list for this recruitment may be used for similar positions in this, or other, State agencies.

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract, and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. 

You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.

Leave may be granted to a contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12-month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
