Introduction
The Office of the Attorney General is seeking applicants for a Paralegal
II position for the Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR).

POSITION DUTIES
The individual in this position serves as an Assistant to five or six Assistant Attorneys General in the Office of the Attorney General serving the Maryland Department of Natural Resources (“Office”), providing paralegal and administrative assistance associated with lawsuits, administrative actions, and transactions in accordance with State natural resources statutes, administrative and judicial rules of procedure, and the Code of Maryland Regulations, Titles 8 and 27. This assistant performs legal research, prepares legal documents for review by attorneys, and provides administrative and clerical support to the Office.
The position will provide paralegal and administrative support to at
least five Assistant Attorneys General representing DNR. Responsibilities
include drafting of correspondence and pleadings; organization and preparation
of documents for discovery; assistance in all aspects of litigation; real
estate transactional support; research and general administrative support.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience: Three years of experience as a legal assistant or legal secretary performing legal research or preparing legal documents on behalf of an attorney.
Notes: 1. Thirty credit hours or a certificate in paralegal studies from an accredited college or university may be substituted for the required experience.
2. Thirty credit hours from an accredited law school may be substituted for the required experience.
3. Additional years of experience as stated above may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in paralegal specialist classifications or paralegal specialist specialty codes in the legal and kindred field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.
1. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office or
comparable word processing skills.
2. Strong organizational and writing
skills, be detail-oriented and be able to work at a consistently high volume.
3. Knowledge of civil litigation process and
procedures is essential.
4. Familiarity with real estate transactional procedures
is preferred.
