Introduction

This is a position specific recruitment for the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, Resource Assessment Service - Maryland Geological Survey. This recruitment will be used to fill current vacancies for the position and may be used to fill future vacancies in the same classification/function. Future vacancies may also be filled via other recruitments. The resulting eligible list will be maintained for one year.

POSITION DUTIES

The incumbent will carry out multiple primary and diverse functions associated with the leading, management, and development of the Hydrogeology program within the Maryland Geological Survey through thorough knowledge of groundwater resources and issues within Maryland, management and leading of a 7-person hydrogeologist team, management of many concurrent projects and budgets, and the development of individual staff and the project team. An important function of this position is knowledge of historical and current hydrogeological, hydrochemical, and geophysical studies within Maryland and having an excellent understanding of how the groundwater regimes change throughout the State. This position will be the lead scientist in the executive branch of Maryland government for the hydrogeology of Maryland. Another function of this position is leading, development and execution of studies within the State to address current hydrogeological problems (both quantity and quality) as well as to anticipate the direction of future scientific inquiries. This position will seek funding to execute these studies through local, state, and federal government systems. Another function of this job is to perform all management functions for the program including developing and managing budgets, developing proposals, invoicing, project tracking, and contractual monitoring. The position routinely coordinates activities among multiple Local, State, and Federal agencies and presents data in scientific meetings and conducts public outreach.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experienced in advanced coursework or experience in groundwater hydrogeology.

Experience with project management including leading and supervision experience of other geologists.

Experience in report and grant proposal writing with peer-reviewed and published writings focusing on Maryland groundwater resources.

Experience in developing and maintaining working relationships with other State agencies, counties, federal partners, and stakeholders.

This recruitment is limited to current employees of the Maryland Department of Natural Resources.
