Introduction

The Division of Labor and Industry is accepting applications from qualified applicants to fill current open positions.  All candidates must meet the minimum qualifications during the time of applying.  Applicants in pool will remain active for one year and be considered as openings occur.

Southern Maryland (Calvert, Charles and St. Mary's counties)
Eastern Shore Maryland (Cecil, Kent and Queen Anne's counties)

Main Purpose of Job

This position is the trainee level of work performing audits and investigations that include examining and analyzing the payroll and business records of employers. The audits and investigations are conducted to determine or confirm liability under Unemployment Insurance Law in accordance with federal Tax Performance Standards and Field Investigation and Audit Unit policies in the Department of Labor’s Unemployment Insurance Contribution Division, generally accepted auditing standards and practices, governmental auditing standards and practices, and generally accepted accounting principles. The audits are performed independently or as a member of an audit team.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:   A Bachelor’s degree in accounting from an accredited college or university or a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with 30 credit hours in accounting and related courses, including or supplemented by 3 credit hours in auditing.

Experience: None.

Notes:

1. Applicants, who had met the requirements for admission to the CPA examination prior to July 1, 1974, will be considered to have met the education requirement.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Internal Review classifications or Auditing specialty codes in the Financial or Auditing fields of work on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Employees in this classification are required to travel to multiple locations within their assigned territory.

2. Employees in this classification are provided and required to use a laptop computer.
