Introduction

The Maryland Department of Labor, (Labor), Division of Unemployment Insurance is accepting applications from qualified candidates for the position of UI Professional VI. This recruitment will be used to fill current and future vacancies. All candidates must meet the minimum qualifications during the time apply. The resulting eligible list will be maintained for one year after the closing date of the announcement.

POSITION DUTIES

This employee is the training facilitator; have full responsibility for training the UI Professional IV, UI Professional III, UI Professional II, and UI Professional I. This employee is the Acting Supervisor of the Unit when the Administrator is out of the office. This person is proficient in performing all duties including the Supervisor.

The name of the unit (Tax Assistance/Employer Call Center) exemplifies the unit and agency mission statements. All calls, e-mail, faxes and letters are recorded to ensure that the employer receives and replies/acknowledgements. We strive to supply courteous, accurate, succinct and timely assistance/support to employers and/or their representative. Employers contact us for multifarious reasons. Tax Assistance Unit is a vital unit within Contributions Division. The unit’s telephone number is displayed on most notices issued to employers. The staff communicates any tax issue which cannot be resolved within Tax Assistance/Employer Call Center to the appropriate unit. All staff members are required to have a general knowledge of what every other unit within the Contribution Division is responsible for processing.
This employee reviews and determines when the employees have obtained a satisfactory level of proficiency with completing all of their assigned duties. UI Professional VI ensures that the employees are cross trained on all duties performed within this unit. During the training period this employee is required to supply feedback so this Supervision is assured of the accuracy and timeliness of the work completed. She approves and disapproves penalty waiver requests and completes the PEP Evaluation for the Lower Level Professionals. Employees received statistical charts each month indicating their individual productivity level. This supervisor provides technical support for highly complex issues and provides guidance for the specialist and associates. Attends the manager’s meeting in the absence of the Administrator, approve or disapprove leave request, bi-weekly and monthly time sheet.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Possession of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university.

Experience: Five years of experience supervising staff in a public or private agency related to rendering and/or determining eligibility for a Human Service Program. 

Note: Applicants may substitute additional experience in unemployment insurance as defined above for the required education at the rate of one year of experience for one year of education, for up to four years of the required education.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

All candidates are subject to a background check against files maintained by the Division of Unemployment Insurance (MDOL/DUI) to determine whether any monies are owed to MDOL/DUI as a result of unemployment insurance overpayment/fraud. Any unpaid debt may have an impact on whether or not a candidate is offered employment.
