Main Purpose of Job

This position will determine eligibility for certification and benefits, in regards to clients and applicants of the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Program, by determining nutritional risks, prescribing supplemental foods, and approving special food packages. This position will also provide nutritional and breastfeeding education; develop and implement high-risk Nutrition Care Plans; and, develop and implement select nutritional and breastfeeding portions of the annual Nutrition and Breastfeeding Services Plan.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Determined by the Maryland State Board of Dietetic Practice, under the licensing requirements for Nutritionists and Dietitians.

Experience: Two years of experience providing professional nutrition or dietetic services.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Master’s degree in Public Health, Community Health, or Nutrition from an accredited college or university for one year of the required experience.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a Commissioned Officer in Dietitian and Nutritionist classification, or Dietitian and Nutritionist specialty codes in the Dietitian field of work, on a year-for-year basis, for the required experience. 

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The desired candidate should have professional experience in a WIC program, as well as experience developing nutritional plans and providing nutritional education. The desired candidate should be an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC).

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current license as a Dietitian/Nutritionist from the Maryland State Board of Dietetic Practice, 4201 Patterson Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21215, prior to permanent appointment.

2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

The evaluation may be a rating of your application, based on your education, training and experience, as they relate to the requirements of the position. Therefore, it is essential that you provide complete and accurate information on your application.
