POSITION DUTIES

The selected candidate for this position is responsible for providing secretarial support to the managers of the Tax Investigation Unit, Business Nexus Unit, and the Individual Nexus Unit, and to help ensure the best possible service to taxpayers and co-workers. In addition, this position will float between sections within the Compliance Division for secretarial support on an as needed basis. Duties include but are not limited to: setting up, creating, and typing form letters and templates to be used by the audit staff; proofreading outgoing correspondence for completeness and accuracy; answering telephone calls and directing the caller to the appropriate staff member or taking appropriate messages; and maintaining and requesting supplies for Compliance Programs staff, fax machines and copiers.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Two years performing secretarial or clerical work involving typing duties.

NOTES:

  1. Additional secretarial or clerical experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
  2. Thirty credit hours with a major in secretarial science or office technology from an accredited college may be substituted at the rate of thirty credits for one year of experience for up to two years of the required experience.
  3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Administration classifications or Administrative, Clerical, or Office Services specialty codes in the Administrative Support field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Demonstrated ability to accurately type on a keyboard of a personal computer at a minimum of forty words per minute may be required, depending on the specific requirements of the position.

EXAMINATION PROCESS

Qualifying applicants are subject to an oral interview. Prior to appointment, the employee must successfully undergo a comprehensive background investigation including a review of criminal, MVA and tax records; and determination of legal authorization to work in the United States or under the United States Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986. This background check is comprehensive and may involve fingerprinting. Upon initial appointment OR promotion to a position in the State Personnel Management System, an employee is required to serve an initial six- month probationary period. This probationary period may be extended an additional six months under certain circumstances at the discretion of the appointing authority.
