Main Purpose of Job

This position will provide receptionist duties at the front desk of the 24/7 Substance Abuse/Co-Occurring facility, under the Kent County Health Department. There is a main switchboard, where all calls are to be answered and forwarded from.

This position will also be responsible for mail and package delivery, including patient delivery items, all of which will be sent and accepted through this office. Finally, this position will be responsible for a variety of other tasks, including typing correspondence and other documents; scanning patient charts; preparing agency information packets; and, the admissions and discharges of AFWC consumers.


Education: Completion of the eighth grade.

Experience: One year of experience typing correspondence, reports, charts, or other documents from rough draft, corrected copy or oral instruction on a keyboard of a personal computer, computer terminal or word processor.


1. Candidates may substitute additional experience typing or performing other clerical duties, on a year-for-year basis, for the required education.

2. Candidates may substitute graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate for six months of the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute five courses or six months of clerical training in subjects, such as Keyboarding; Clerical Math; Word Processing; Spreadsheets; Database; Graphics Presentation; Proofreading; or, Office Etiquette, for six months of the required experience.

4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a Non-Commissioned Officer in Administration classifications, or Administrative, Clerical or Office Services specialty codes in the Administrative Support field of work, on a year-for year basis, for the required experience.


The desired candidate should have customer service experience, as well as experience typing correspondence and/or other documents.


A demonstrated ability to accurately type on a keyboard of a personal computer, computer terminal or word processor at a minimum of forty words per minute may be required, depending on the specific requirements of the position.
