POSITION DUTIES

The main purpose of this position is to provide a complete range of administrative and secretarial support duties to the Barrack Commander, Assistant Barrack Commander, Criminal Section Commander, as well as uniformed and civilian personnel assigned to the Leonardtown Barrack. This includes compiling data and preparing statistical reports, preparing and composing correspondence, and communicating with Department personnel, allied law enforcement agencies and the public. The Leonardtown Barrack is a full service barrack located in St. Mary's County.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Completion of 60 credit hours at an accredited college or university.

Experience: One year of experience in administrative or professional work.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute experience as defined above for the required education at the rate of one year of experience for 30 credit hours, for up to 60 credit hours of required education.

2. Candidates may substitute 90 credit hours at an accredited college or university for the required education and experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer involving staff work requiring regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting rules and regulations in accordance with agency laws and policies on a year-for-year basis for the required education and experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Experience drafting and typing administrative correspondence, endorsements, reports and letters

2. Experience with data entry while interpreting criteria and rules of statutes

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Candidate may be responsible for providing their own transportation as needed to access meetings, remote locations, and job destinations as assigned

SELECTION PROCESS

Only candidates who meet the minimum qualifications will be considered for this classification. Therefore, it is essential that you provide complete and accurate information on your application. Successful candidates will be placed on the Eligible List categorized as BEST QUALIFIED, BETTER QUALIFIED or QUALIFIED and remain eligible for consideration for at least one year from the date of examination. The list will be used by the hiring manager to select employees.

EXAMINATION PROCESS

The examination will consist of a rating of your education, training and experience related to the requirements of the position. You may be required to complete a qualifications supplement, or the rating may be based on your application. Report all experience and education that is related to this position. Applicants may be given a physical examination and will be subject to an interview, background investigation, polygraph examination and substance abuse testing.
