Main Purpose of Job

The Maryland Park Service is currently recruiting for multiple seasonal contractual positions at Gunpowder Falls State Park in Kingsville, Maryland, North Point State Park in Edgemere, Maryland, and Hart-Miller Island near Middle River, Maryland. You must indicate on the Supplemental Questionnaire the position(s) of interest in order to be considered for this recruitment. Please review the main purpose of each job closely before applying.

PARK RANGER – Gunpowder (24 vacancies) ($15 / hour)
A Seasonal Park Ranger is a temporary, introductory level of work in the operation of a State park. Work is performed indoors and outdoors under various weather conditions. Applicants must be available to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as scheduled. Duties may vary for each facility and generally include, but are not limited to:
· Provide visitors with park information and regulations
· Monitor and cleaning of State buildings, bath houses and restrooms
· General maintenance of park trails, public facilities, staff buildings and DNR vessels and vehicles
· Monitor recreational activities in the park, including but not limited to hunting, fishing, hiking and biking
· Register campers
· May be assigned duties that require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

PARK RANGER – Hart-Miller Island (5 vacancies) ($15 / hour)
A Seasonal Park Ranger is a temporary, introductory level of work in the operation of a State park. Work is performed indoors and outdoors under various weather conditions. Applicants must be available to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as scheduled. Duties may vary for each facility and generally include, but are not limited to:
· Provide visitors with park information and regulations
· Operate a patrol vessel on the Chesapeake Bay
· Operate a bicycle concession operation
· Provide programs to visitors related to island
· May be assigned duties that require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

PARK RANGER – North Point (5 vacancies) ($15 / hour)
A Seasonal Park Ranger is a temporary, introductory level of work in the operation of a State park. Work is performed indoors and outdoors under various weather conditions. Applicants must be available to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as scheduled. Duties may vary for each facility and generally include, but are not limited to:
· Provide visitors with park information and regulations

The Seasonal Park Maintenance position is responsible for the maintenance of grounds, facilities and equipment in a park or recreation area. Work is performed indoors and outdoors under various weather conditions. Applicants must be available to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as scheduled. Duties may vary for each facility and generally include, but are not limited to:
· Clean restrooms, shelters and campsites
· Refill bathroom supplies
· Removal of litter
· Maintenance of facilities and grounds
· Mow and trim grass
· Painting, electric, carpentry and plumbing work
· Upkeep of vehicles, equipment and vessels
· Use of hand tools and operation of power equipment
· May be assigned duties that require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

PARK NATURALIST – Gunpowder (7 vacancies) ($15 / hour)
The Seasonal Park Naturalist develops and leads interpretive programming at a State Park. Work is performed indoors and outdoors under various weather conditions. Applicants must be available to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as scheduled. Duties may vary for each facility and generally include, but are not limited to:
· Develop and present interpretive and environmental education programs
· Assist with volunteers and youth programs
· Develop and maintains exhibits, park bulletin boards and educational materials
· Advise the public of general park rules and regulations
· Operation and maintenance of nature centers, buildings and grounds
· May include live animal care and handling associated with the Scales and Tales program
· May be assigned duties that require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

HISTORICAL INTERPRETER – Gunpowder (1 vacancies) ($15 / hour)
The Historical Interpreter presents living history and educational programs to park visitors. Work is performed indoors and outdoors under various weather conditions. Applicant must be available to work weekends, evenings and holidays as scheduled. Duties may vary for each facility and generally include, but are not limited to:
· Present historical programs to park patrons
· Develop displays and educational materials
· Perform routine cleaning and maintenance of buildings and restrooms
· Conduct historical research

CONTACT STATION ATTENDANT / CAMPER CONTACT ATTENDANT – Gunpowder (10 vacancies) ($15 / hour)
The Contact Station Attendant / Camper Contact Attendant is responsible for welcoming visitors to the park, collecting various service charges and/or registering campers. Work is performed indoors and outdoors under various weather conditions. Applicants must be available to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as scheduled. Duties may vary for each facility and generally include, but are not limited to:
· Answer phones / provide information to visitors
· Register campers
· Operate a computer reservation system
· Handle money and provide change
· Assist with facility upkeep and maintenance

CONTACT STATION ATTENDANT / CAMPER CONTACT ATTENDANT – North Point (8 vacancies) ($15 / hour)
The Contact Station Attendant / Camper Contact Attendant is responsible for welcoming visitors to the park, collecting various service charges and/or registering campers. LIFEGUARD – LAKE OR BAYFRONT BEACH – Gunpowder (18 vacancies) ($15 / hour)
The Lake / Bayfront Beach Lifeguard is responsible for ensuring visitors have a safe and enjoyable recreational experience. Work is performed indoors and outdoors under various weather conditions. Applicants must be available to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as scheduled. Duties may vary for each facility and generally include, but are not limited to:
· Provide safe water-based recreation for park patrons
· Provide visitors with information and park regulations
· Maintain the beach area, to include trash and litter removal
· Provide emergency care
· Prepare written reports
· Must be certified by a national agency in Lifeguard Training, First Aid and CPR, as well as pass a physical evaluation, swim test and written test. Candidates may be certified after hire.

CONCESSION ATTENDANT – Gunpowder (7 vacancies) ($15 / hour)
The Concession Attendant provides information to visitors about park facilities, programs and regulations. Work is performed indoors and outdoors under various weather conditions. Applicants must be available to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as scheduled. Duties may vary for each facility and generally include, but are not limited to:
· Operate a cash register in the sale of park merchandise
· Maintain inventory of supplies, materials and products
· Complete required reports
· Administer canoe and kayak rentals
· Assist with litter pickup near concession facility
· Prepare and serve hot and cold food

MARINA ATTENDANT – Gunpowder (9 vacancies) ($15 / hour)
The Marina Attendant provides customer service to park patrons at a park marina facility. Work is performed indoors and outdoors under various weather conditions. Applicants must be available to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as scheduled. Duties may vary for each facility and generally include, but are not limited to:
· Rent boats to park patrons
· Provide visitors with park information and regulations
· Operate cash register
· Maintain and clean boats and marina equipment
· Open and close Boat Center

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: None.

Experience: None.

SELECTION PROCESS

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program (the Program), have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.

Leave may be granted to a temporary/contractual employee who works an average of at least 12 hours per week. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
