Tuckahoe State Park Complex (Caroline/Queen Anne’s/Kent Counties)  

The Maryland Park Service is currently recruiting for multiple seasonal contractual positions at Tuckahoe in Queen Anne, Maryland, Martinak in Denton, Maryland, Wye Island NRMA in Queenstown, Maryland, Cypress Branch in Millington, Maryland and Sassafras NRMA in Kennedyville, Maryland. You must indicate on the Supplemental Questionnaire the position(s) of interest in order to be considered for this recruitment. Please review the main purpose of each job closely before applying.

PARK RANGER (3 vacancies) Tuckahoe & Martinak State Parks
A Seasonal Park Ranger is a temporary, introductory level of work in the operation of a State park. Work is performed indoors and outdoors under various weather conditions. Applicants must be available to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as scheduled. Duties may vary for each facility and generally include, but are not limited to:
• Provide visitors with park information and regulations
• Register campers
• Monitor and cleaning of campgrounds, bath houses and restrooms
• General maintenance of park trails, public facilities, staff buildings and DNR vessels and vehicles
• Monitor recreational activities in the park, including but not limited to hunting, fishing, hiking and biking
• Will be assigned duties that require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

PARK RANGER (2 vacancies) Wye Island NRMA
A Seasonal Park Ranger is a temporary, introductory level of work in the operation of a State park. Work is performed indoors and outdoors under various weather conditions. Applicants must be available to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as scheduled. Duties may vary for each facility and generally include, but are not limited to:
• Provide visitors with park information and regulations

Work is performed indoors and outdoors under various weather conditions. Applicants must be available to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as scheduled. Duties may vary for each facility and generally include, but are not limited to:
• Clean restrooms, shelters and campsites
• Refill bathroom supplies
• Removal of litter
• Maintenance of facilities and grounds
• Mow and trim grass
• Painting, electric, carpentry and plumbing work
• Upkeep of vehicles, equipment and vessels
• Use of hand tools and operation of power equipment
• May be assigned duties that require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

Duties may vary for each facility and generally include, but are not limited to:

PARK NATURALIST (2 vacancies)
The Seasonal Park Naturalist develops and leads interpretive programming at a State Park. Work is performed indoors and outdoors under various weather conditions. Applicants must be available to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as scheduled. Duties may vary for each facility and generally include, but are not limited to:
• Develop and present interpretive and environmental education programs
• Assist with volunteers and youth programs
• Develop and maintains exhibits, park bulletin boards and educational materials
• Advise the public of general park rules and regulations
• Operation and maintenance of nature centers, buildings and grounds
• May include live animal care and handling associated with the Scales & Tales program.
• Will be assigned duties that require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

CONCESSION ATTENDANT (3 vacancies) Tuckahoe & Martinak State Parks
The Concession Attendant provides information to visitors about park facilities, programs and regulations. Work is performed indoors and outdoors under various weather conditions. Applicants must be available to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as scheduled. Duties may vary for each facility and generally include, but are not limited to:
• Operate a cash register in the sale of park merchandise
• Maintain inventory of supplies, materials and products
• Complete required reports
• Administer canoe and kayak rentals
• Assist with litter pickup near concession facilities

OFFICE CLERK (1 vacancy) Wye Island NRMA
The office clerk position daily tasks include but are not limited to the following: general receptionist duties - greet public and distribute information, answer phone, route calls and take messages; give lodge tours and take rental reservations; assist with administrative duties, manage hunting lotteries, utilize the statewide CAMIS reservation system to manage youth group reservations, cash and mail handling. Some office and restroom cleaning will be required. Applicants must be able to lift 25lbs. and interact in a positive manner with co-workers and the public. Applicants must be available to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as scheduled.

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program (the Program), have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.

Leave may be granted to a temporary/contractual employee who works an average of at least 12 hours per week. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
