Main Purpose of Job

The Maryland Department of Health (MDH)'s Prevention and Health Promotion Administration (PHPA)'s Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Control (CCDPC) is responsible for a dynamic portfolio of projects which facilitate healthy lifestyles for Marylanders, with a focus on diabetes, heart disease, and stroke prevention. This position will support, monitor and coordinate a wide range of strategic health policy and planning activities related to chronic disease prevention and control efforts, with particular emphasis on evaluating, analyzing and researching policies which impact Maryland citizens.

This position will provide policy guidance to CCDPC programs and evaluate all environment/policy/systems activities of the Center. This position will demonstrate high-level analysis and writing skills, in order to prepare documents, reports and policy documents. Additionally, this position will provide contract and project management support to multiple projects within CCDPC, in order to promote evidence-based practices to improve population health. Finally, this position will coordinate key stakeholders in both the public and private sectors in councils.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Two years of experience evaluating, analyzing, researching, and developing health care services, policies and programs.

Notes:

1. A Master's degree in Health Sciences, Health Care Administration, Public Health, Public Policy, or a closely related field may be substituted for one year of the required experience.

2. A PhD in Health Sciences, Health Care Administration, Public Health, Public Policy, or a closely related field may be substituted for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The desired candidate should have public health policy experience, as well as public health program and contract management experience.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
