Main Purpose of Job

The Training Administrator position is a specialized position that requires developing, planning, organizing, implementing, and administering the interpretation and application of agency policies, directives and procedures as they relate to training mandates and requirements, in accordance with the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commissions (MPCTC), the American Correctional Association, (ACA), and Departmental policies and procedures. The incumbent is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the daily training operations for newly hired staff. This includes, but is not limited to (1) Implementing the annual Entry Level Training schedule, (2) Instructing required courses for new staff, (3) Recommending revisions to policies and training curriculum, (4) Ensuring staff complete all certification requirements.


Education: A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Four years of experience in administrative staff or professional work.


1. Additional experience in administrative staff or professional work may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Additional graduate level education at an accredited college or university may be substituted at the rate of 30 semester credit hours on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work related to the administration of rules, regulations, policy, procedures and processes, or overseeing or coordinating unit operations or functioning as a staff assistant to a higher ranking commissioned officer on a year-for-year basis for the required education and experience.


Possession of a current Instructor Certification from the Maryland Police Correctional Training Commission (MPCTC). If you possess a current Instructor certificate from MPCTC, please upload a copy with your application.
At least one year of experience training adults in the Public Safety/Criminal Justice work environment is highly desirable.
At least one year of experience in a residential facility setting.


Limited to current Department of Juvenile Services employees only.


Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
