Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to administer residential programs, manage staff and other resources, and ensure that the goals and objectives of the Department of Juvenile Services are met.

POSITION DUTIES

This position is responsible for five (5) State owned and operated facilities (Backbone Mountain Youth Center, Garrett Children's Center, Mountain View, Green Ridge Youth Center and Victor Cullen Center). This position will plan, organize and evaluate the overall management of the Residential Services and direct operations and service to include case management, somatic, dietary, mental health, educational services, and maintenance and security of the facilities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION: High School diploma or G.E.D. certificate acceptable to the Maryland State Board of Education as described in the Correctional Training Commission Regulation.

EXPERIENCE: Seven years of experience providing supervision and guidance to youths in a juvenile facility or juvenile services community program for at-risk youth or working in a correctional setting.  Three years of this experience must have involved exercising supervisory responsibility over other staff providing services to youth.

NOTE:
An Associate of Arts degree in Criminal Justice or the social or behavioral sciences from an accredited college or university may be substituted for up to one year of the required general experience.  A Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice or the social or behavioral sciences from an accredited college or university may be substituted for up to two years of the required general experience.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
