Main Purpose of Job

The Facility Administrator provides direct management and supervision for the operation of a juvenile facility, to include personnel and youth ordered into the care and custody of the Department. DJS is mandated to provide secure and non-secure residential facilities for the rehabilitation of delinquent youth. The Facility Administrator position is considered an essential position. The incumbent may be required to work evenings, weekends and holidays and may be subject to call-in based on staffing needs or emergency situations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION: High School diploma or G.E.D. certificate acceptable to the Maryland State Board of Education as described in the Correctional Training Commission Regulation.

EXPERIENCE: Seven years of experience providing supervision and guidance to youths in a juvenile facility or juvenile services community program for at-risk youth or working in a correctional setting. Five (5) years of this experience must have involved exercising supervisory responsibility over other staff providing services to youth in a juvenile facility, community or residential setting. 

NOTE:
An Associate of Arts degree in Criminal Justice or the social or behavioral sciences from an accredited college or university may be substituted for up to one year of the required general experience.  A Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice or the social or behavioral sciences from an accredited college or university may be substituted for up to two years of the required general experience.
