Introduction
THIS POSITION IS AN INTERNAL RECRUITMENT LIMITED TO CURRENT MARYLAND DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE EMPLOYEES ONLY.
The Maryland Department of Commerce is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Management Associate within the Division of Business & Industry Sector Development.

POSITION DUTIES
This position is responsible for the following: managing, coordinating, implementing, and expediting administrative projects; preparing briefing documents and routine correspondence; screening and directing calls; scheduling appointments, coordinating meetings, and providing support for events and meetings. Incumbent will assist with fiscal/budget activities; database management; interprets administrative decisions and policies in accordance with law, rules and regulations and apply departmental policy to daily work problems to the staff and transmits orders and instructions as directed by the Senior Director; arrange travel and coordinate logistics for call missions, trade shows and conferences; monitor reconciliation of expense reports; process actions through FMIS; serve as liaison for the Senior Director while maintaining frequent contacts with assistant secretaries, directors, professional staff, administrative staff, office secretaries, other State agencies, and the public and private executives to accomplish goals. This position exercises a high degree of discretion and tact when dealing with staff, businesses, elected officials, and the general public.
The selected candidate must be well organized, self-motivated, and able to work independently; possess excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills; an aptitude for detailed work and excellent office-management skills.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience: Five years performing secretarial work or clerical work involving typing duties.
Notes:
1. Additional secretarial or clerical experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
2. Thirty credit hours with a major in secretarial science or office technology from an accredited college may be substituted at the rate of thirty credits for one year of experience for up to two years of the required experience.
3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Administration or Personnel Specialist classifications or Administrative, Clerical, or Office Services specialty codes in the Special Assistant or Secretarial fields of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.
Two years’ experience working for a senior level administrator.
Experience with Financial Management Information System (FMIS).
Strong time management, priority setting, and problem-solving skills.
Proficient in the use of Microsoft Outlook, Google Mail, Word, Excel, Access, Internet, other relevant software
