LOCATION OF POSITION

MDH Frederick County Health Department, Frederick MD

POSITION DUTIES

The main purpose of this position is to provide secretarial support to the Frederick County Health Officer, the primary official for the Frederick County Health Department, facilitating management details and providing administrative support. The secondary function of this position is to provide secretarial support to the Deputy Health Officer and Director of Administration and Finance for the Frederick County Health Department.

This position also performs critical control functions such as logging in all checks received daily, key, badges, building access, scheduling of conference rooms, managing maintenance requests, managing cleaning requests, managing the panic buttons including testing and maintenance, Vital Records reporting, and Automated External Defibrillator functioning.

A thorough knowledge of the functions, procedures, organization, regulations and governing laws of the Health Department is required. Frederick County's population growth to over 250,000 has increased the volume of the Health Department, the significant increase in the number of staff, as well as the duties and complexities of this position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Five years performing secretarial work or clerical work involving typing duties.

Notes: 1. Additional secretarial or clerical experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Thirty credit hours with a major in secretarial science or office technology from an accredited college may be substituted  at the rate of thirty credits for one year of experience for up to two years of the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Administration or Personnel Specialist classifications or Administrative, Clerical, or Office Services specialty codes in the Special Assistant or Secretarial fields of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The desired candidate should possess the following:

-- experience providing secretarial/administrative work for an executive or higher-level position

-- experience providing customer service in an office setting

-- preparing and maintaining statistical and numerical reports and records, specifically in Microsoft Excel

-- extensive knowledge of Maryland Department of Health and Frederick County Government's policies and procedures

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Demonstrated ability to accurately type on a keyboard of a personal computer at a minimum of forty words per minute may be required, depending on the specific requirements of the position.
