Introduction
The Maryland
Historical Trust (MHT), an agency of the Maryland Department of Planning, is
seeking to hire a full time Outreach Coordinator for the Jefferson Patterson
and Museum (JPPM). Located on 560 scenic acres along the Patuxent River in
Calvert County, Maryland, JPPM is home to over 65 archaeological sites, more
than 30 historic buildings and structures, and the Maryland Archaeological Conservation
Laboratory. JPPM supports the preservation of Maryland's cultural resources and
connects people to the past through the preservation and interpretation of our
onsite historical and archaeological resources.

Main Purpose of Job
POSITION DUTIES
Develop and maintain a volunteer program at JPPM including recruiting
volunteers; developing volunteer policies, procedures, and standards for
volunteer service; managing volunteer orientation, training, and recognition; scheduling
all volunteer activity; and serving as the point of contact for communications
between volunteers and JPPM staff.
Enhance JPPM’s online presence by developing and managing JPPM’s
social media accounts. This includes working with JPPM staff including
the Education Department, MAC Lab, and Marketing Coordinator to post
interpretive content and notify the public of all events and programs through
social media outlets.
Conduct offsite outreach activities to
promote and support park activities. This will include attending community
fairs and festivals; interfacing with Calvert County Library to promote JPPM
activities; coordinating with JPPM staff and Marketing Coordinator on items to
promote; printing and distributing flyers, signs, and promotional materials to
the public; and building relationships with local organizations such as
neighboring parks and museums.
Conduct public satisfaction surveys and integrating
that data with website and social media metrics to analyze the success and impact of educational
and outreach programming.
Assist with editing and maintaining the JPPM website and calendar of
events.
Provide staff coverage at JPPM’s Visitor
Center and participate in JPPM events and programming.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university.
Experience: One (I) year experience in administrative or professional work.
Notes:
1. Candidates may substitute additional experience in administrative staff or professional work on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
2. Candidates may substitute additional graduate level education at an accredited college or university at the rate of 30 semester credit hours for each year of the required experience.
3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work that included regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting complex administrative plans, policies, rules or regulations or analysis of operational programs or procedures with recommendations for improvement on a year-for-year basis for the required education and experience.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience with web page design and publishing.
The ability to interpret the results and take action to increase
the effectiveness of social media campaigns.
Experience developing and managing a volunteer program.
Experience using various data sources to analyze the success
and impact of educational and outreach programming.
Experience conducting public satisfaction surveys and using
that data to inform program revision and development.

EXAMINATION PROCESS
BENEFITS
Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.
Leave may be granted to a contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
